Applications
Industries
Pink fused alumina is produced by introducing controlled amounts of chromium oxide during the fusion of high-purity alumina. The chromium doping gives the material its characteristic pink color while also improving grain toughness compared with standard white fused alumina. After fusion, the material is cooled, crushed, and graded into sizes suited for bonded abrasives and other precision finishing applications.
The added toughness allows grains to hold sharp cutting edges longer while reducing excessive brittleness during grinding. This combination supports efficient stock removal together with improved surface finish and lower heat generation, especially when working on hard steels, cutting tools, optical glass, and delicate precision components. For applications that demand clean cutting action without severe burning, pink fused alumina offers a useful middle ground between pure WFA sharpness and tougher abrasive systems.
Buyers typically select pink fused alumina when conventional abrasives produce unstable grinding behavior, too much heat, or inadequate finish quality on demanding materials. Chromium content, grain shape consistency, and size control all influence final performance, so reliable sourcing is important for tool manufacturing, precision engineering, and medical or optical finishing work.
